I have thawed, the sun is warm and wonderful and the time is here for living outdoors!
We’re in the midst of “re-creating” our outdoor spaces a bit, I’ll show you what we’ve been doing around here soon.
It involves spray paint, re-purposing, and color….just a few of my very favorite things.
I love the opportunity outdoor decorating gives you to use bright, juicy accent colors everywhere.
This is not the time for restraint…splash color around with abandon, mix prints and pattern freely – nature does, follow Her lead.
No sun porch actually required – instead of “regular” patio furniture, use some secondhand / thrifted furniture pieces and paint them. Combine with lots of colorful cushions to create an outdoor space that feels like an extra room. Using an exterior latex paint on furniture will help if it isn’t 100% sheltered, and spray paint always works.
Read through here for the best paint options, prep steps, etc.
Here’s a word of caution they didn’t include – don’t forget about overspray if you’re spray painting bare foot.
Unless you want Mediterranian Blue feet. This may or may not have happened here.
Don’t you love this?
Instead of a predictable patio set, Susan painted what was probably an old kitchen table, chairs & side cabinet – and the beautiful aqua is totally Summer Happy.
Decorate your fence with potted plants; DIY an outdoor coffee table with 2 pallets….Genius.
These next few are completely DIY, easy, cheap, and reveal my deep & abiding love of mason jars….
And I absolutely LOVE this oh-so-simple outdoor table centerpiece:
How about curtains? …Instant pretty.
If the elements are a concern, use fabric rated for outdoor use, or painters drop cloth.
Pipe & conduits from the plumbing section make inexpensive mounting hardware.
So the Summer Happy message is - just think about how you can use “indoor” decor in your outdoor space:
Why yes, that is a bird feeder chandelier – very creative and fun!
A bit of spray paint and maybe minor modification – so much lovelier than a store bought feeder.
Maybe not best over your outdoor eating area, but a chandelier there looks so fancy too – it doesn’t have to function, it just has to ‘be’. Add candles instead of bulbs if you’re a stickler for function.
I hope this has inspired you to take a look at your outdoor space, and create your very own corner of Summer Happy.
If you’re planning to re-decorate, re-design, or renovate, I can help you create the extraordinary.
Fall in love with your home again.
