Dressers & Baking….

This story is about dressers.  And baking – Baking & Dressers.  And Sacrifice.
So, first, have I ever told you about my friend Dawn’s baking?  As in, her world-class, amazingly delicious baking?  Cobblers, crisps, brownies, blondies, cookies & cakes – that just show up at my door.  I cannot, (and therefore, do not) bake, so this is fantastic & surreal for me.

I tell you this because it is now Dawns dressers that I have painted and made over for her and Mr. Dawn, and you may (after the last few posts) be wondering why I am so heavily invested in re-doing someone else’s furniture.  So, that’s reason part I.  It’s also because I have no furniture to do, and the Mister has said he’d “prefer we not just keep accumulating” (or something like that).  So, much like Ross being willing to drink the fat, I am sacrificing for the ones I love.

Dressers, Baking, and Sacrifice.

Here’s the sad & Tragically unHip Befores:

And après transformation:

Dawn’s Master Bedroom would certainly end the perception of painted furniture being only appropriate in a “certain style of room”.
This bedroom is (well, it will be) elegant, refined, serene….polished.  The Wall color is  Martha Stewart ‘Cumulous Cloud’…it’s all silver & crystal accents, white bedding, silk drapes, and the lushest, plushest carpet in all the land.

These dressers have nary of bit of distressing, not a smidge of waxing.  Not a sanded detail in sight.  They are BM Oxford White, with deep charcoal tops (BM Gray, custom tinted darker).
They were finished in SW ProClassic Satin.

The inside drawers were finished in the same charcoal as the gorgeous, velvety smooth tops.

There is a mid-point to a large project like this though where you look around your garage and wonder if you’re crazy.
And then, more Blondies show up and you are inspired and spurred on by the sugar high.

Once the astoundingly ugly hardware was removed, the holes left in the doors needed to be filled.  Using a small peice of wood dowel is the easiest way to do this.  I did this step after priming, but before painting, as you will have to sand and prime the filler before painting :

Legs were also added to give them a more modern feel, and the ball shape of them is mimicked in the posts of the bed.  Which sounds all fancy, and it was intentional, but, they’re still just fence post caps – my fav for dresser legs.

Next Step, the bed will be done in the same dark charcoal as the dresser tops.
There will be artwork added above the bed and above the low dresser.
The drapes have been ordered; the color is ‘Pewter’ and it is stunning with the wall color.

I’m so pleased with how they turned out, but most importantly, Dawn & Mr. Dawn LOVE them, and how the room is shaping up.

Which for me, means the baking will continue to show up at my house.

It’s all about the sacrifices, Friends.
